With almost 5,800 miles of coastline along the Pacific Ocean, Gulf of California, Gulf of Mexico, and the Caribbean Sea, Mexico does not suffer from a shortage of beaches. So much coastline means there are beaches for all tastes, and that includes beaches that hold high appeal for honeymooners.

If a Mexican beach sounds like a match for your honeymoon, one or more in this article might be right for you. Of course, they’re also great for any couple looking for a romantic getaway.

You might first think of spring break, corporate retreats, and family vacations when you think of Cancun, but it’s also very popular with honeymooners. It’s one of the safest cities in the country, the food is great, the beaches are beautiful, and there are many world-class resorts.

South of Cancun along the Yucatan coast is the Riviera Maya region. Playa del Carmen is among the best beaches there, with white sands and clear Caribbean waters.

Also part of the Riviera Maya, Tulum has gorgeous beaches as well. What makes it especially remarkable is that it’s home to some of the best-preserved ancient Mayan ruins on the planet.

Los Cabos

This is the region at the southern tip of Baja California. It has some of the most rugged and dramatic coastline in the country. Cabo San Lucas is known for its nightlife, while San Jose del Cabo is quieter and serves up a more authentic Mexican experience.

Newlyweds with a love of both the waters and the city will love this Pacific destination. During the day, go snorkeling or diving among colorful coral reefs. Later, enjoy open-air shops, live performances, and more in town.

If the party scene at Los Cabos and Cancun isn’t for you and you want something more laid-back, try this upscale, peaceful getaway. It’ll feel practically empty compared to those more famous destinations. Some top attractions include swimming with dolphins and going on a yacht for a cruise.

Punta Mita

Just 10 miles north of Puerto Vallarta, Punta Mita is a peninsula with a remote, private feel. The waters are perfect for swimming and surfing, and there are several luxury hotels and resorts to choose from.

Many call this spot the most beautiful beach in Baja California. The desert meets the sea here, where a quiet bay leads to the transparent waters of the Sea of Cortez.

Isla Mujeres

Across the bay from Cancun, Isla Mujeres is a side trip for some and a quiet alternative for others. The waters are shallow and warm, and the sands of the main beach are formed from crushed coral. If you two are scuba divers, you’ll be thrilled to know the waters around this island are home to the greatest concentration of whale sharks on Earth.

Isla Holbox

Once considered a secret spot, Isla Holbox, just north of Cancun, is still a quieter alternative. You won’t want to miss out on the over-water hammocks this place is famous for.

Playa del Amor

The “Beach of Love” sounds perfect for honeymooners, but there’s a catch. It’s only accessible when tides are low, and the currents are usually too dangerous for swimming. That’s okay since it’s one of the most spectacular beaches you’ll ever see; the easiest way to describe it is as a beach enveloped by a massive cave with a huge hole in its roof.

Zihuatanejo

If you’re a fan of The Shawshank Redemption, you might have wondered if this ultimate destination for Andy Dufresne is actually real. It is. Located in a remote section of the Pacific coast, it isn’t easy to get to, and thus the beautiful landscapes here are bereft of the crowds you find at Mexico’s more famous beaches.

Costalegre

This Pacific location has a fascinating mix of the luxurious and the primitive. For example, one luxury hotel has all the amenities you could ever want while also having a 30,000-acre wildlife preserve literally right behind it.

Many of the beaches around Los Cabos are unsafe for swimming and actually closed to it due to dangerous currents. Playa Los Cerritos is just an hour north on the Pacific coast. It’s a lot less crowded, and its waters and shores are safe for swimming, snorkeling, surfing, shell collecting, and more.

Surfing couples will love this Pacific beach that’s one of the best and most famous for it in Mexico. Experts liken it to the famous Pipeline in Hawaii, and it’s the site of many competitions. If surfing isn’t your thing, there’s plenty to see and do in the nearby town of Puerto Escondido.
